Blankney Farm Update – 28 October 2020

Harvest 2020 continues with the maize crop safely gathered in, with a respectable yield above our 5 year average.

Sugar beet harvest has now started and yields are down, largely due to the yellows virus, that came into our crop in late Spring. We have no control of this disease currently – we hope, in time, we will have new varieties which can show some tolerance or resistance; without these varieties, the risk of growing sugar beet may become too great.

Grass and lucerne harvests are now coming to an end and our stores are nicely full, ready for the winter season and also ready for the production of horse and ruminant feeds.

We have also improved our website – so if you’re reading this – click on our ‘Gallery’ page, to see photos and videos of what we do on the Estate.
