Blankney Farm Update – 3 December 2021

Sugar beet harvest is now underway, however, the sugar beet factory in Newark has been slow so we are behind on our lifting. We are expecting our yields to be as budgeted at 86 tonnes a hectare.

Autumn drilling went well this year with a largely dry weather pattern. 72% of our wheat was established in September and October, with the remaining wheat established late after lifting sugar beet.

High energy costs, particularly gas, has been a major problem for us and will impact on our crop drying business. Already, we have lost 20% of next years sales as we have been unable to pass on the increase in energy costs to our customers.
