Blankney Farm Update – 31 March 2023

Recent wet weather in March has held up our spring drilling campaign – we still need to finish establishing spring barley (undersown with grass and lucerne), dry peas and then we need to move into establishing our sugar beet crop. This workload will now be concentrated into a short period of time, as and when the weather allows.

This is when we really appreciate the cooperation of our skilled operators, who will put in the hours needed to get the crop drilled in a timely fashion.

In other news, we have agreed terms to now grow nettles! Our first commerical nettle field will be established in late June. This is an exciting opportunity to develop nettles as a functional feed.

Finally, we have now completed malting barley and we continue to deliver this to Kerrys and Sedamyl.
