Blankney Farm Update – 9 January 2020

Our final harvest – sugar beet – continues and we will look to lift some our heavier soils this month. Yields still excellent at 85 tonnes per hectare. We now only have 30% of the crop left to lift and deliver to the Factory.

We’re hoping to drill wheat next week and we continue to drill spring Barley into our lighter heath soils. We now have 15% of this drilled.

The feed business is currently slow with mild conditions. Our customers are not using the feed as normal. Our drying capacity expansion, investing in biomass (woodchip ) to dry forage crop, has gone well and we have commissioned the first boiler. It feels right to be working with a renwable fuel source.
